Bath Youth Parliament Election

On Feb 2nd the whole of Hayesfield voted in the Bath Youth Parliament elections. There were official polling stations for both upper and lower school, run by prefects, and official ballot boxes and papers for the constituency. Councillor Nicholas Coombes also came in to ensure that all official voting regualtions were followed. There were 5 candidates but Hayesfield's Mike Fidanoglu from Year 12 was successful with over 2,500 votes across Bath. We're sure he will be a great representative for young people across the city. Please follow the link below to read the full story in the Bath Chronicle.

Interesting opportunity to host a Year 7 chinese student this summer term (and earn a little for your hospitality)

Hayesfield is an enthusiastic member of the thriving partnership between 8 primary and secondary schools in Bath and schools in the city of Suzhou in China.
As a way of helping our pupils to meet and mix with Chinese students the partnership will host 40 Year 7 Chinese pupils for the coming Summer Term. Last year’s visit was a great success. The students spend their school days at Writhlington and St.Greg’s but will also be visiting the other schools.
We are still looking for a few families who would enjoy this interesting opportunity to host a Chinese visitor on a homestay for the term.
Obviously you would be remunerated for your hospitality – at £120 per week.

To find out more please contact Miss Trueman via information@hayesfield.com  or  ring 426151 as soon as possible.

Centurion Book Club meets Catherine Bruton

On Tuesday 31st January, the Centurion Book Club got the opportunity to meet the wonderful author of “We Can Be Heroes”, Catherine Bruton.
We asked her a series of questions about her and her book. These are some:

Q – What inspired you to write the novel?
A – I used to be a journalist and wrote articles about 9/11 and the children who were affected by it. That is what inspired me. I am now a teacher as well as an author, and some of my students also gave me some ideas for the book.
Q – Do you feel that you related to any of the characters?
A – No, I didn’t relate to any of the characters, however I based the characters on people around me. But if I could be any of the characters it would be Priti because she is the cool one!
Q – How long did it take you to write the novel?
A – It took 9 months before I sent it off to my agent, but she thought it was boring in places so I spent a couple more months rewriting. When it was finally finished the total number of months I spent working on it was 15!

Her latest book is called POP and will be coming out in the summer. We’re all looking forward to reading it.
